How to prevent rust from forming
It’s not as easy to prevent rust from cookware because you’re always washing it. But it’s definitely possible by drying your cookware with a microfiber cloth, dish rag, or dish towel.
Never allow your cookware to air dry.
For cast iron, you can prevent rust by continually seasoning it as you use it.
How to remove rust from cookware & utensils
If you don’t have a proper grout cleaner solution or stainless steel cleaners you can use lemon juice, and vinegar.
1. Lemon Juice
Lemon juice is a great natural way to fight rust from rusty utensils. You need a bowl of hot water with a liberal helping of lemon juice. Submerge your rusty kitchen utensils for 24 hours. Scrub the rust from your utensils and then wash them as usual.
2. Baking Soda
The do-it-all cleaner is also a rust buster. All you have to do is cover the pan with the solution and let it sit for an hour or so. Use a non-scratch scouring pad to rub off the rust and the solution from stainless steel surfaces. Then just wash the pot or pan as usual.
3. Vinegar
You can fill a bowl with vinegar where you can submerge your utensils overnight and wash after that. For pots and pans, you can fill it with equal parts vinegar and water overnight, then scrub the rust with a non-scratch scourer.
